							Gecko Tape (Directional adhesive)

 The world's first directional
							anisotropic adhesive.
							It has Anisotropic
							structure enables controllable adhesion
							providing
							directionality in adhesion. The

							movie clip   demonstrates directional
adhesion compared to conventional double sided tape.
Unlike conventional tape, its adhesion can be
controlled by shear load.  If it is loaded in desired direction,
without significant amount of normal preload, it creates
high friction and adhesion maximizing contact area and is also
able to detach with by reducing shear load. if it is loaded in wrong
direction, the adhesion force is very low.

							Stickybot

 The world's
							first
							glass-climbing quadruped robot equipped with
							Gecko Tape

							Gecko Tape
							(Directional adhesive).
This is my latest and greatest creation in my Ph.D.
Most of the concept design is based on my sketch
that I drew in the airplane from meeting with RiSE
group in March 2005. It took me about an year to
make this robot start to climb. This platform is
embodiment of principles of adhesion - hierarchical
							compliance, controllable directional adhesion and
distribution of forces. It runs at 24cm/s and climbs
0.8m/min on glass, acrylic and similar smooth
surfaces.  It exhibits novel mechanism features
							that I invented....
